Mike Ferris is the Founder and Managing Director of ml ferris associates, a consultancy and specialist Security and First Aid training provider business.
He is an experienced Conflict Management instructor, Physical Intervention and Self Defence instructor, SIA course instructor and holds a CTLLS in coaching. Mike also has a wealth of knowledge as both a Crime Prevention Design Advisor and Search Team Leader.
Leigh Ferris is a Director and Trainer at ml ferris associates. Leigh has many years experience of both Health and Training.
She is experienced in delivering PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector), Physical Intervention, Self Defence, Manual Handling and First Aid Training and is both a First Aid Instructor and Assessor.
Mike Ferris: With nearly 40 years in security and crime prevention behind him he is an experienced and dedicated Consultant, Coach and Trainer.
After 13 years service in the Royal Air Force Mike joined the Metropolitan Police Service and served 25 years, mostly in the East end of London.
During his time in the Met. he became an Officer Safety Instructor teaching officers conflict management, restraint techniques, the use of batons, CS spray, handcuffing and firearms.
After training as a Crime Prevention Officer and Crime Prevention Design Adviser Mike consulted on the Canning Town Regeneration Project, the Olympic site at Stratford and on the building of the Excel Exhibition Centre, all multi million pound projects. Most recently he consulted on the Stratford Village project, another multi million pound project for a new shopping and housing project.
Most new builds within the London Borough of Newham have had input from him with regards to ‘Secure by Design’ requirements and he has conducted thousands of security surveys including surveys of docks and football stadiums as well as industrial, commercial and domestic sites.
In addition Mike has trained numerous new officers in basic crime prevention after implementing crime prevention initiatives where they were needed.
He has organised and run many seminars on personal safety for vulnerable groups including women’s groups, care workers, disabled persons, persons with specific learning difficulties, students, children’s groups such as cubs, scouts and girl guides, victims of crime, OAP groups and care homes.
Throughout his 25 year service he was involved in a great many major operations whilst working very closely with the Anti Terrorist Unit, SO13 both as a CPDA and as a search team leader.
Mike was instrumental in the production of a training manual for searching in a CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear) environment. He instructed police officers in search techniques and awareness at both local and national level and has conducted counter terrorist surveys on a large number of sites and given counter terrorist talks to councils and leaders of commerce.
During his time with the Royal Air Force (Regiment) security services Mike was responsible for testing the security of both ours and NATO ally bases travelling to many countries and learning how to break into armed military bases.
The RAF enabled Mike to develop many skills not least the use of good conflict management as well as search techniques which he used on deployment in several theatres of war and police operations.
It was also at this time that Mike took up an interest in Martial arts, becoming a Black belt second Dan in Wado Rhu Karate competing in many international competitions, a Brown belt in Tomiki Aikido and has studied Krav Maga and Jujitsu.
Mike has retained his Military interests throughout his adult life and holds a TA Commission. He remains actively involved and is a part time Instructor at Frimley Park Training Centre which is the School of excellence for adult instructors in the Army Cadet Force.
As a leader in his field of expertise Mike aims to provide the very best training in conflict management and physical intervention.
Leigh Ferris: Leigh has many years experience of working in Health and Training. After spending a number of years working in large hospital Accident and Emergency Departments she went on to spend 6 years training as a Medical Herbalist. This has given her a thorough training in both medicine and general health and nutrition.
Leigh also spent many years working firstly in an Infant school and more recently 9 years working for the National School of Government, a training college for the Civil Service.
Since joining Mike in setting up his own business Leigh has increased her skills to include training in Physical Intervention Skills, Self Defence, First Aid (as an instructor and assessor) and Manual Handling.
Leigh’s background of treating patients and training combines well to deliver thorough training delivered in a caring and reassuring environment conducive to excellent learning and retention by her students.
